Spring!

I love Spring!

It has to be one of my favorites just because I'm a sucker for warm weather and sunshine, and coming out of a cold, snowy winter I'd consider 50's to be warm.

Saturday we had our very first Spring cleanup day! It's the first Spring that we have had a house and have been able to do so. It was even warm enough that I turned off the heat and opened the windows for a few hours. I love fresh air! It smells fresh and clean! I'm not the only one who loved open windows...the cats had a blast running from window to window and being able to jump up and look out ones that they normally can't. Plus, when we were cleaning out the flower bed out front, they would sit in the window and watch.
Apparently I didn't open one of the windows enough for them, and Kobe took it upon himself to squeeze between the window and screen...needless to say we had to snag a quick photo of the silly boy.
I guess he doesn't realize how big he has gotten since last Fall when he could do so without a problem.

I love pulling up to the house now and having all the dead plants trimmed back and all the leaves gone. I'm also excited to see what we have in our flowerbeds. There are numerous green sprouts coming up and since the first time we saw the house was at the end of April and it was covered in weeds, I have no idea what type of flowers we might have!

It's a process, but slowly the house is becoming ours, and we are ridding it of any reminates from the former owner. All the junk from the attic clean out/remodel in December has been living on our back porch all winter. It's now gone! I have a back porch again! Now it's time to hit up yard sales for a little patio set. Oh, and we need to buy some chains to hang the porch swing too! Always something.

I always look forward to Spring because of all the new life, and this year we will be adding a new life to our family. The day before Spring to be exact. On Spring would be cool...but then that means no free Rita's. I'm planning to be standing in that line either in labor or with a newborn...well see which it is :-)

My Entertainment

Who needs TV when you have two silly cats? I have seriously gotten more laughs out of them then I could count.

Caption: K: She'll never find me here! Now I just have to wait and sneak attack her!
S: Silly boy! You really think you can hide from me?

What do you think they are thinking?

It's Finally Here...

...the vet appointment I have been waiting for!

Sasha and Kobe are finally 6 months, and like most animals that age they are ready to make babies.

When they were about 4 months old I started to call around to different places in the area to schedule an appointment and to find out cost. Do you know how expense it is!?!?! And a girl is so much more than a boy. One place quoted me over $500 for both! That didn't include the visit fee or any of the shots. That's crazy! And all of them said they wouldn't take them until they were 6 months.

I happened to stumble across Banfield one day, which is actually located in PetSmart, which is extremely close and they had the best price all around. When I took them in for their first round of shots I was told that they recommend getting them fixed around 4 months (wish I had found them sooner!) and that they were booked until the end of February. This was the very beginning of January! I thought I was scheduled, but at my last appointment found out that in fact the front desk lady had made a bunch of mistakes (and was no longer there) and I in fact didn't have an appointment, that the next one available would be March 15th. Umm...that's like 4 days before baby day.

Luckily, they are a chain, and there are a few in the area. I was able to find an opening at the one in Pottstown for tomorrow! It was only a week and a half wait instead of a month and a half! Good thing because we have had to keep them separated until then.

Which breaks my heart. :-( One gets locked in the upstairs bathroom while the other gets free reign of the house. Since Kobe's the male and we don't want our whole house smelling like male cat (umm, does anyone?) he gets the bathroom. The first night was horrible! He's a talker to begin with, but he sat in there and cried his little head off. Sasha can't really meow, so she took to scratching/banging on our bedroom door in an effort to get our attention that she was alone. I really don't know how momma's teach their babies to cry themselves to sleep because I had such a hard time not getting up and letting the cats in. If it wasn't for the thought of having a litter of kitties to deal with around the same time as a new baby I probably would have given in. Of course all of this starts up again around 5 am when they are awake and ready to play. Oh, and in the middle of the night if I have to get up to use the potty, or just make too much noise rolling over.

I will be a very happy camper come tomorrow when I'll be able to rest again in my own house! We let them play together while we are home, but unless one is in eyesight I'm constantly chasing them around the house to make sure they don't do the do. I must say that I have been spending a lot more time in my bedroom since I close them in there with me and they have the bedroom and the bathroom, and since the bedroom is normally off limits they love it! And I love it because it's a small enough space for me to easily keep tabs on them.

And now time for some pics of the a babies...

Here they are the day we got them...with their other brother.
I can't believe how tiny they were! Only 5 weeks :-)

And now all grown up! My babies have gotten so big!!!

Krazy Kitties

After catching Kobe for the billionth time on the counter I decided to have a little talk with him. We actually have a lot of conversations. He loves to talk. Weird? Anyways, our discussion went a little like this:

Me: Kobe, you know your not allowed on the counter. And you jumping off and running when I come in the room, proves that you know.

Kobe: I know...but I like it up there!

Me: I know you like it, but you can't be up there.

Kobe: I know, I know! But I like it up there.

Me: Well then we need to work something out.... And since I'm bigger, I win!

Kevin was in the other room cracking up and asked if he could use that on me sometime since he's the bigger one. :-)

I think part of his counter obsession has to do with his water obsession. He L.O.V.E.S. water. I have to lock them out of the bathroom when I take a shower otherwise I'll have two wet fur balls in there with me. (Or a bath. Yes, Kobe some how ended up in the tub with me.)

They recently discovered that the bathroom also has a sink. Perfect for them to wrestle in.

And lucky for them, we have two, so they don't have to fight over who gets one.

Please pardon the mess...it's still a construction zone in there!

Babies!

Meet Kobe and Sasha. The newest editions to our new home.

We weren't planning on getting babies, but 3 weekend ago, we met and fell in love. My parents neighbors' cats both had kittens, twice, totaling 15 cats, so they were looking to get rid of a few. (There are still more if anyone is looking) After persuading Kevin and a quick trip to Petsmart we were the proud parents of 2-5 week old kittens.

Talk about an intro to parenthood. They grow up so fast and are learning something new everyday. Nothing is mine any more. I have to watch my food and drink or else they will decide they want to share. Safety becomes an extreme (which is a challenge when just moving into a house). I love them and look forward to seeing them after work.

I guess it's good practice for when we become actual parents in March :-)
